MV Danae - Help us restore this timeless beauty
The picture above was taken of the MV Danae in 1981 - she won "Best Powerboat" at the Victoria B.C. Wooden Boat Festival. Danae was in her prime!
The next picture was November 14 , 2025.
Danae was berthed in beautiful Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington State.
Shortly after we purchased her a piece of flotsam wedged between the dock and the hull and punched a hole in her side. She began to sink. Luckily, the incredible folks at BoatTowUS - Friday Harbor were on the scene in minutes after the sheriff was notified. As I hurried north to catch the ferry, they sent me this photo - Danae was saved, and hanging from the sling at Jensen's Boatyard in Friday Harbor.

When we purchased Danae she was suffering from years of neglect. The brightwork was a disaster, the plumbing suspect. And a black hull? That had to go. But seeing her timeless lines and learning her history ... both Rhonda and I fell in love.
Our goal - clean up as much of the brightwork as possible with what little time we had before the weather turned, work on plumbing and electrical over the winter, then finish restoration in dry dock this coming summer. With an incredible run of warm and dry weather in October we made rapid progress.
Then near-disaster struck. We have since discovered she needs some replanking below the waterline as well as repairs to the puncture damage. She sits high and dry - and safe - thanks to so many friends in Friday Harbor.
